Our History

Most Worshipful George Mathews Supreme Grand Lodge

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest fraternal and charitable organizations. Our organization allows men to connect with others who are doing charitable work and deeds within local communities. Our members come from all walks of life and meet as equals, regardless of their race, religion, age or socio-economic position in life. The values of Freemasonry are based on FaithHope, and Charity.

The Most Worshipful George Mathews Supreme Grand Lodge (MWGMSGL) is the governing body of Freemasonry within International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, Incorporated with its headquarters located at 2101 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48207.

MWGMSGL meets annually at the Supreme Convention in July. At this Convention, members receive reports on prior year’s activities, Masonic education, and fraternal interaction. Each MWGMSGL Officer is available for reference and guidance to those serving in National District and Grand Lodge offices throughout the year.

The Most Worshipful George Mathews Supreme Grand Lodge has thousands of Masons meeting in approximately 500+ Lodges throughout the United States, Bahamas and on the African Contnent. Each Local Lodge is subordinate to their state’s Grand Lodge, which is governed by a Grand Master and cabinet of officers.

For the purpose of ensuring accountability and to prevent any disharmony within states, National Districts were created to allow states within specific geographic regions of the country to meet annually for the purpose of education, information exchange, and fellowship. These National District Grand Lodges are governed by National District Grand Masters who are appointed by the Supreme President/CEO at the Supreme Convention every two years.

The Most Worshipful George Mathews Supreme Grand Lodge publishes “The Voice of Masters Among Men” quarterly which provides essential news regarding upcoming conventions, special meetings, edicts issued by the Supreme President/CEO, and other useful information and instruction needed by Masons. It provides a list of all Supreme Grand Lodge officers and committees. It also provides a study topic for Masons to focus on throughout the year leading up to the Supreme Convention. Become a Freemason

To be One, ask One...

One of the fundamental tenets of Freemasonry is that we do not solicit men to be members. In order to become a Mason, all you have to do is ask one. Click HERE to complete an Inquiry Form and someone will get in touch with you.

Freemasonry is the older Fraternal Order system in the world and while we have been around for 72 years, our goal is to ensure we continue the legacy of making good men to be better men in their homes, communities and the countries we have a presence and operate.
